Privacy Policy

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy applies to the TravelLingo mobile application and the TravelLingo website.

TravelLingo does not currently require you to create an account, provide your name, or submit an email address to use the mobile app.

2. Information stored on your device

TravelLingo may store the following information locally on your device:

• Your selected language and app preferences
• Lesson and practice progress
• Completion history and related progress information
• Settings needed for the app to function

This information is used to provide the app’s core features. It is not currently connected to a TravelLingo user account or synchronized across devices.

Removing the app or clearing its storage may remove this locally stored information.

3. Analytics information

TravelLingo uses PostHog to collect limited analytics about app usage. This helps us understand which features are useful, identify technical problems, and improve the app.

Analytics information may include:

• The app version and device platform
• Which app tabs or general features are opened
• The selected learning language
• Lesson or practice category identifiers
• The type of practice activity started or completed
• Whether an activity was completed
• Counts such as the number of search results
• Whether speech recognition returned a result, without including what was spoken

TravelLingo does not intentionally send your spoken transcript, phrase text, translation text, dictionary search text, audio recordings, name, email address, or precise location to PostHog.

Analytics identifiers may be generated automatically by the analytics provider to distinguish app installations or sessions. We use this information for product analytics and app improvement, not for advertising.

4. Speech recognition and microphone access

TravelLingo includes speaking-practice features that use your device’s microphone and speech-recognition services.

Microphone access is used only when you choose to use a speaking activity. The app may display the words recognized by your device so you can compare what was heard with the practice phrase.

TravelLingo does not intentionally record, store, or send your voice audio or spoken transcript to TravelLingo analytics.

Speech recognition may be processed by services provided by your device manufacturer or operating-system provider. Their handling of speech data is governed by their own privacy policies and device settings.

You may deny or revoke microphone permission through your device settings. Speaking-practice features may not work without that permission, but the rest of the app will remain available.

5. Phrase audio

TravelLingo uses generated audio files to provide phrase pronunciation. Listening to phrase audio does not require TravelLingo to record your voice.

The pronunciation audio is included as part of the app’s learning content and is separate from microphone-based speaking practice.

6. Website and waitlist information

The TravelLingo website may allow you to voluntarily join a waitlist or contact support.

When you submit a form or send an email, we may receive information you choose to provide, such as:

• Your name
• Your email address
• Your preferred language
• Your preferred app store
• The contents of a support message

We use this information to respond to you, manage launch communications, and provide TravelLingo updates. We do not use this information for unrelated advertising.

You may ask to be removed from the waitlist or request deletion of information you submitted by contacting us.

7. Service providers

TravelLingo may use service providers to operate the app and website. These may include:

• PostHog, for limited product analytics
• Google Play, for Android app distribution
• Apple services, if TravelLingo is distributed on iOS
• Website hosting, form-processing, email, and infrastructure providers

These providers process information according to their own terms and privacy practices and only as needed to provide their services.

8. Data sharing and sale

TravelLingo does not sell your personal information.

We do not share personal information with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Information may be disclosed when reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law, respond to valid legal requests, protect the security of TravelLingo, or prevent fraud or misuse.

9. Data retention

Information stored locally in the app generally remains on your device until you clear the app’s data or uninstall it.

Analytics information is retained according to TravelLingo’s analytics settings and the policies of the applicable service provider.

Waitlist and support information may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to communicate with you, provide support, maintain records, or comply with legal obligations.

10. Data security

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures intended to protect the information handled by TravelLingo.

No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Children’s privacy

TravelLingo is designed as a practical travel-learning tool and is not directed to children under 13.

We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to TravelLingo, contact us so we can review and address the request.

12. Your choices

You may:

• Decline or revoke microphone permission
• Clear locally stored app data through your device settings
• Uninstall the app
• Request removal from the TravelLingo waitlist
• Contact us with questions or requests regarding information you submitted

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as TravelLingo changes or as needed to reflect legal, technical, or operational requirements.

When the policy is updated, the revised version will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
